Our blogs stats are way up, thanks to all of you!! In the past two days we've had over 100 hits, that can't be just Curtis, our virtual tour buddy!
We've appreciated the suggestions to spruce up the blog including providing more information about the other people we meet on the road including their motivation for choosing South America as their destination. That's a question we haven't thought to ask, but we will.
Thomas wants to know about the plants, so this photo is for him to identify. It looks like a succulent tree and we have heard they take hundreds of years to grow. We now realize they can handle a very cold climate because this very old one was photographed just off San Carlos de Bariloche's main plaza.
You can see the swiss influence in these beautiful wood and stone buildings in the Civic Center of Bariloche. St. Bernard dogs seem to be the city's mascot and we were lucky enough to see a puppy as well as fully grown specimans yesterday as we walked around town.
Unfortunately the main plaza has fallen victim to graffiti! I wonder if the culprits are these skateboarders that Keith enjoyed watching?!
It's been raining and blowing all day, so not much to report. But again, thanks for letting us know you are along for the ride.
Araucaria araucana (Monkey-puzzle) is the hardiest species in the conifer genus Araucaria. It is native to south-central Chile and west central Argentina, and is an evergreen tree growing to 40 m tall and 2 m trunk diameter. Because of the species's great age it is sometimes described as a living fossil. Araucaria araucana is the national tree of Chile.
