Thousands of visitors from all over the world descend upon Puerto Iguazu with one purpose in mind, to visit the falls. We rate this experience as our favorite day yet on this adventure. Keith said many times that this natural wonder, officially on the short list of the Seven Wonders of the World, is the most impressive natural display he’s ever seen in his lifetime and I would second that!
We got up early to take public transport to the National Park, a world heritage site since the mid 80’s.
The walkways are a human achievement nearly equally the natural beauty. Steel structures span and cross very powerful moving waters supporting thousands of guests each day. How these metal bridges were ever even built is a wonder in itself!
It took a full day to walk from fall to fall, 275 in total. The noise is deafening, the mist refreshing and the views breathtaking! We’ll let the pictures tell the rest of the story, though they don’t do it justice!
We have worked on securing visas for Brazil here in Puerto Iguazu, but are unable to do so. The whole experience was hilarious! The agents at the consulate were put off by our use of Spanish. They are very strict about what times you pick up and drop off applications. Some other travelers were turned away one day, they didn’t even know why. “No soup for you!” was the feeling of the place. We did complete and print our applications, even had our passport pictures taken, but we will need to wait for Buenos Aires to get them processed because we need a five-year visa rather than 30 days. They are the same price and are trip to Brazil exceeds 30 days.
The first full day, Sunday, we were here it was hot & humid!! But that night it poured buckets of rain for hours on end accompanied by a lightening storm that was dramatic. Monday started with light rains, then mist, and cleared up in the afternoon with a cool breeze that made a walk to the place where three countries meet. Rivers provide natural boundaries between Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina. We enjoyed talking with other travelers in the small park overlooking this spot.
Tomorrow we head to Buenos Aires in the early evening. We will be staying in a private home there; we are looking forward to speaking Spanish with her.
Some of our series of animals we met along the trail today...
Incredible waterfalls and rainbow!
